Marine emissions capture company, STAX Engineering, has signed a five-year agreement with Equilon Enterprises, operating as Shell Oil Products US, to implement its technology at the Port of Los Angeles’ Mormon Island Terminal beginning in 2025.

This agreement makes STAX the first and only provider of emission control services for tankers in California, ensuring an important contribution to the reduction of maritime pollution in the country.
[post_relacionado]The company’s goal is to capture and control emissions by offering an effective alternative to achieve emission reductions on tankers. The exhaust gas capture system, designed to fit all ships without modification, is especially useful in congested ports. This advanced technology removes up to 99% of particulate matter(PM) and 95% of nitrogen oxides(NOx) from exhaust gases before they are released as purified gas into the environment.
The agreement with Shell establishes STAX’s position as a reference in emissions capture technology in California, where it has already secured contracts at major ports including Los Angeles, Long Beach, Hueneme, Benicia, Richmond and Oakland. In addition to its collaboration with Shell, STAX has established partnerships with international shipping companies such as Japan’s NYK Line and South Korea’s Hyundai Glovis. NYK Line, in particular, will use STAX’ s technology to capture and monitor emissions from car carriers.
This development underscores Shell and STAX’ s commitment to reduce the environmental footprint of the maritime industry by adopting technological solutions that minimize emissions and improve air quality in the world’s busiest ports.
