Van Oord has begun fueling its Stornes vessel in Norway with an innovative blend of biofuels. This breakthrough is part of an ongoing effort to reduceCO2eemissions and move toward a zero net emissions future.
The biofuel used in the Stornes is a B30 blend, composed of 30% hydrogen-treated vegetable oil (HVO) and 70% marine gas oil (MGO). The HVOa high-quality renewable diesel, is produced from waste materials such as used cooking oil. In addition, this fuel is certified under the ISCC scheme, which guarantees its sustainability. This change has led to a 26% reduction in the vessel’sCO2eemissions, representing a major achievement in Van’s efforts to minimize its carbon footprint.
