The port of Port Canaveral in the United States was the scene of the first simultaneous ship-to-ship (STS) dual supply operation of LNG to cruise ships. This breakthrough represents a significant step towards the use of cleaner fuels in the maritime industry.
In addition, the main players in this operation were Royal Caribbean International’s Utopia of the Seas and Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wish. The barges Clean Canaveral and Clean Everglades played a very important role, as they were in charge of providing the LNG while the ships were docked at their respective cruise terminals.
Dual LNG supply to cruise ships sets new standard

This underscores the industry’s commitment to more sustainable solutions. In addition, by December 2024, cruise ships such as the Mardi Gras and the new Disney Treasure are also expected to begin receiving LNG at this port.
Importantly, in mid-2025, Royal Caribbean’s new Star of the Seas is expected to join the LNG-powered ships operating from Port Canaveral. Other cruise ships that will adopt this technology in North America include Silversea’s Silver Ray, MSC Cruises’ MSC World America, the aforementioned Disney Treasure and Princess Cruises’ Star Princess.
