Kraken Robotics has successfully completed a high-resolution mapping contract under Precision Hydrographic Services(PHS) seabed sonar services, working in partnership with the Australian Department of Defense.

The purpose of this project was to carry out hydrographic surveys surveys in a number of Australian ports, collecting essential maritime geospatial information to improve maritime domain understanding through the acquisition of detailed seafloor and oceanographic data.

PHS chief executive officer Neil Hewitt noted, “Our partnership with Kraken Robotics and its KATFISH synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) system has been highly successful. For five months, our team worked tirelessly, covering several thousand kilometers in Australia’s key defense ports and waterways. The Kraken KATFISH operated flawlessly, with not a single hour of downtime.”.
KATFISH In addition, the KATFISH high-speed detection and survey solution was used to conduct high-resolution route surveys in Australian ports. The survey campaign began in January 2024 and was completed in May 2024. This contract followed a successful demonstration of the KATFISH system for the Royal Australian Navy(RAN) in Q1 2023 and the subsequent purchase of a KATFISH system by the RAN in Q2 2023.
