Toledo Solar, a manufacturer of thin-film solar panels announced that it is ceasing operations and discontinuing its research and development activities. They began production in 2021 in Perrysburg, Ohio, with a capacity of 100 MW, focusing on panels for residential, not utility markets, in partnership with First Solar. The company was looking to position itself in smaller markets with a 115 W panel similar to First Solar’s Series 4 module.
Challenges and closure of Toledo Solar after legal dispute
Problems quickly arose, with First Solar claiming in 2023 that Toledo Solar did not manufacture its own panels, but resold First Solar’s under its own brand name. Following a legal dispute and the dismissal of the CEO, Aaron Bates, Applied Business Strategy LLC was hired to restructure the company in July 2023.

Unfortunately, we were unable to license the necessary cadmium telluride panel technology. After unsuccessfully changing our business model, the Toledo Solar Energy Board determined that there was no viable path forward and voted to cease operations.
