Iberdrola and Burger King have signed an important agreement for long-term energy procurement. This commitment reaffirms the determination of both companies to adopt cleaner energy sources and allows them to jointly explore new possibilities that promote energy efficiency and a more sustainable business model.
Through this pact, Iberdrola is expected to provide approximately 1,500 gigawatt hours (GWh) of solar photovoltaic power to the restaurant chain, marking a significant step in Burger King’s effort to achieve carbon neutrality. carbon neutrality and strengthen its energy security.

[post_relacionado]The collaboration between these two entities does not stop here, as the energy supplied to Burger King will come from the Francisco Pizarro photovoltaic plant in Cáceres, which has an installed capacity of 553 MW. This plant can cover the electricity consumption of approximately 334,400 households and will prevent the emission of 150,000 tons of CO₂ per year.
In addition, a total of 75 MW of this plant will be dedicated exclusively to meeting Burger King’s energy needs, contributing to a significant reduction in the company’s carbon footprint.
Both Iberdrola and Burger King are implementing strategies to decrease CO₂ emissions, in line with energy transition goals. In collaboration with bp pulse, they manage 154 electric vehicle charging points, with a total of 306 with a total of 306 charging points in 135 strategic locations in Spain, thus improving the infrastructure for more sustainable mobility at Burger King facilities.

Electric recharging station in Zamora
In 2022, Iberdrola and Burger King will inaugurated a charging station for electric cars at the address at the 21 Villalpando street address in Zamora. It has two 50 kilowatt (kW) chargers located in the parking lot of the facility, allowing up to four vehicles to be recharged simultaneously at any time of the day.
Drivers using these services will be able to charge their vehicles with completely renewable energy, backed by a Guarantee of Origin (GoO) certificate. This launch is part of a broader agreement signed last year between the two companies to equip the parking lots of approximately 400 Restaurant Brands Iberia restaurants in Spain with electric charging infrastructure.
With these new charging points in Zamora, there are now 6 charging stations available in Burger King® establishments in the Castilla y León region.
The zero emissions strategy of restaurant Brands Iberia
David Martínez, Director of Customer Business at Iberdrola Spain, highlighted the importance of these long-term agreements known as PPAs, underlining their effectiveness in guaranteeing electricity supply at stable and competitive prices, as well as their crucial role in the move towards decarbonization.
Luis Hérault, CEO of Restaurant Brands Iberia, reiterated the value of this initiative within its sustainability strategy, recognizing Iberdrola as an ideal partner for these purposes.
Lastly, as part of the 2023-2026 Sustainability Master Plan of Restaurant Brands Iberia, more than 50 initiatives have been implemented, ranging from the installation of solar panels in its restaurants to the replacement of its fleet of delivery motorcycles with electric vehicles. This plan reflects the company’s commitment to the environment and seeks to meet its goal of zero emissions by 2050.
