All American Marine (AAM) has announced that it has been awarded a contract to build a 65-foot catamaran for use as a state-of-the-art patrol vessel for the Los Angeles Harbor Police. This patrol and dive vessel, designed by Teknicraft Design in Auckland, New Zealand, represents a significant advance in maritime law enforcement capabilities.
Design of state-of-the-art port police patrol vessel
The new aluminum catamaran, measuring 65 x 24 feet, will incorporate innovations in hull design from Teknicraft Design. hull design innovations from Teknicraft Design . These improvements will provide increased fuel efficiency and superior performance compared to a similar dive boat delivered by AAM in 2012 to the same port police. This vessel is designed to operate in adverse conditions along the southern California coast in both inland and coastal waters. The inclusion of Teknicraft’s “green bow” design will ensure stable open water sailing, with a cruising speed of 20 knots and a top speed of close to 25 knots.

Vessel complies with Coast Guard regulations
The vessel will comply with U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter T regulations and will feature twin Cummins QSM11-715 engines with fixed pitch propellers, providing a combined 705 bhp at 2500 rpm. In addition, it will be equipped with a variety of sophisticated systems and equipment, including advanced navigation and communication systems to ensure accurate and reliable operations.
The vessel’s safety features will be reinforced with comprehensive fire suppression systems, life-saving equipment and robust structural integrity to protect crew and passengers. It will also be equipped with an A-frame for deploying and retrieving SONAR and remotely controlled underwater vehicles, as well as a diving compressor base and storage solutions for diving equipment.
Operational improvements at the Port of Los Angeles
Port of Los Angeles Deputy Executive Director Tom Gazsi, who is also chief of public safety and emergency management and chief of the port police, emphasized the primary mission of ensuring the safety of the port and protecting people and the maritime environment. Gazsi stressed that the innovative features of this vessel will significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the port police.
The vessel will be built at AAM’s Bellingham, Washington facility and delivered to the Los Angeles Port Police dock. The project will include extensive sea trials and rigorous testing to ensure that all systems and components meet the specified performance criteria.
