Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin have identified Presidio County, located on the U.S.-Mexico border, as a promising source for geothermal energy development in Texas.

The research team previously received a grant to investigate the feasibility of a geothermal plant in the southern part of the county. According to Ken Wisian, leader of the research team and a geophysicist at the University of Texas, “The bottom line is that the whole county looks like a really good development target. As good or better than areas already being developed in Texas.” This finding has been highlighted by ThinkGeoEnergy and has generated excitement among local officials.
