Efforts are underway to refloat the Dali in the Port of Baltimore, following a remarkable operation that involved the use of controlled explosions to remove a section of the Francis Scott Key Bridge from the path of the container ship. A meticulous underwater inspection is currently underway to ensure that the ship can be safely moved to the Seagirt marine terminal.
Preparations to refloat the Dali
This detailed examination is critical to ensure that the Fort McHenry Federal Channel can be safely reopened while minimizing hazards to the M/V Dali during the refloating and relocation process. The Unified Command is also focused on continuing the removal of debris in the central section of the canal, an essential step for the complete recovery of this waterway.
[post_relacionado]Since the bridge incident occurred, more than 365 ships have sailed through the four temporary channels set up at the Port of Baltimore. Prior to the controlled demolition of the bridge, nearly half of the 700-foot-wide Fort McHenry channel had been cleared to a depth of 48 feet.
It is expected that, in the next few weeks, the channel will fully recover its operational capacity with a minimum depth of 50 feet, which will allow the fluid transit of commercial vessels in the port. In fact, the Dundalk terminal has already received Atlantic Container Lines’ Atlantic Sun, the first RoRo vessel to arrive since the incident. In addition, Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s Tannhouser has become the first vessel of that company to resume operations at the terminal since the incident.
