International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) is building a new international container terminal in Batangas, Philippines. This will be the largest investment in a privately financed marine terminal in the country’s history and will ultimately be the second largest container facility after the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) at the Port of Manila.
Million-dollar container terminal in the Philippines
The estimated investment for this construction is USD 800 million. Once completed, the terminal will have up to 900 meters of quay and at least eight cranes , ship-to-shore gantry and an estimated capacity of more than two million TEUs per year. Additionally, the terminal will have direct and unimpeded access to the highways of southern Luzon.
[post_relacionado]This was made possible by the completion of the Bauan-San Pascual-Batangas-STAR Toll Highway bypass road. Additional highway projects from Cavite to Bauan by Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation and San Miguel Corporation are expected to further enhance the connectivity of the new port, making it the most efficiently connected maritime facility in Luzon by both capacity and route access.

It will create new employment opportunities, improve the quality of life of our host communities and industries located around the terminal and solidify Southern Luzon’s position as a key player in global trade.” explained Christian R.
New terminal will strengthen national port network
González, executive vice president of ICTSI, added that the new terminal complements ICTSI’s strategy of providing a national network of ports with ICTSI’s brand of operational synergy that would further improve the country’s supply chain and competitiveness in global trade.
Bauan facilities strategically located 120 kilometers south of Manila and nine kilometers west of Batangas City, will become the main international gateway for transporters based in the CALABARZON region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), and will also be the Container terminal more modern.
CALABARZON remains one of the fastest growing regions in the Philippines, reaching a rate of 5.2 percent in 2023, according to the latest figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority. The region’s gross domestic product amounts to Php 3.10 trillion, accounting for 15 percent of the Philippines’ total GDP. Meanwhile, per capita household final consumption expenditure (HFCE) grew by 4.3 percent, outpacing the national average.
Capacity Balance between Manila and CALABARZON
The facility will allow ICTSI to efficiently balance capacity needs in both the Metro Manila consumption hub and CALABARZON through the new Bauan terminal and the MICT.
With design and engineering studies well advanced, ICTSI will begin construction in the first quarter of 2025. With the completion of the first berth scheduled for late 2027, the terminal will become a catalyst for economic growth throughout Southern Luzon , creating jobs and accelerating the region. The terminal is also expected to play a role in meeting the maritime handling needs required by the country’s renewable energy transition strategy for Southern Luzon.
In addition to the economic and logistical benefits, the new container terminal in Bauan also represents a significant step forward in sustainability. By incorporating green technologies and renewable energies, International Container Terminal Services, Inc. seeks to minimize the environmental impact of its operations , becoming one of the leaders in sustainable practices within the maritime industry.
