Embraer, the third largest aircraft manufacturer globally, revealed that it has been selected to supply 50 of its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to AirX Inc., a charter operator in Japan.
These “flying cars” are being developed by Eve Air Mobility, which is a subsidiary of Embraer. Eve hopes to launch a fully electric and ecological version of these urban aircraft on the market in 2026 , with significantly reduced noise levels, up to 90% less compared to traditional helicopters.
The negotiation of Embraer’s flying cars
[post_relacionado]Initially, AirX Inc. will purchase 10 eVTOLs and have the option to purchase an additional 30 . In addition, access to maintenance and technical support services from Embraer is included in the agreement.
Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve, expressed his gratitude to AirX for its confidence not only in eVTOL technology, but also in the company’s ability to offer comprehensive solutions including Vector software for urban air traffic management.
For his part, Kiwamu Tezuka, CEO of AirX Inc., highlighted the company’s ambition to transform the air transport market through a digital platform that offers accessible and efficient services to a wide audience. To date, Eve has racked up orders for nearly 3,000 units of its aircraft , although development of the first prototype is still ongoing.
The statement also highlighted growing interest in eVTOLs in Asia-Pacific regions, with contracts already signed in countries such as Australia, India and South Korea.
Eve’s aircraft, equipped with eight propellers for vertical takeoff and fixed wings for cruise flight, promises to be a sustainable solution as it is completely electric and capable of transporting up to four passengers and a pilot over distances of up to 100 kilometers.
The role of eVTOLs in the future of air transport
The adoption of these vehicles, in addition to promising to revolutionize urban air transport with cleaner and quieter technologies, could mean an important advance in the management of air traffic in congested cities.
This type of aircraft could play a crucial role in reducing the carbon footprint of the air transport sector and improving the quality of urban life by reducing noise levels.
