Mitsui OSK Lines, Ltd. (MOL) revealed its plans to install the innovative “Filtree System” on its LR1 Nexus Victoria tanker, an initiative that marks a milestone in the Japanese maritime industry. This CO₂ capture system , developed by Value Maritime BV (VM), also incorporates a SOx scrubber, placing MOL at the forefront of environmental technology.
Filtree: the CO2 capture system
The Filtree system will be implemented later this year, making this ship the first under the Japanese flag to be equipped with a technology that not only removes 99% of sulfur oxides (SOx) and particles from exhaust gases, but also enables carbon capture and storage (CCS). This last component is capable of separating and recovering up to 10% of the CO₂ from exhaust emissions.

This chemical, once on land, is processed to separate CO₂, which is then distributed to various sectors such as greenhouses and synthetic fuel producers , providing efficient and beneficial use of the recovered carbon.
