The arrival of Ocean Infinity represents a new era in maritime innovation for Tasmania, as the pioneering company in marine robotics with the support of the Tasmanian Government, will begin a new phase of operations in various sectors such as government, telecommunications, energy, science and research, which will be safer and more environmentally sustainable.

According to David Field, Managing Director of Ocean Infinity in Australia and New Zealand, the new Operations Center in Tasmania will provide a more robust infrastructure to provide hydrography services to the government, as well as increasing capacity to take on more work in this fast-growing region.

The Australian Operations Center represents just one more step in the company’s global expansion, with centers already in operation in the United Kingdom and Sweden and plans to open in Singapore and another Asian location yet to be announced. Coming soon, Ocean Infinity will begin the search for suitable facilities in Hobart.
The company also plans to operate the first of its fleet of 36-meter Armada ships from the Australian Operations Center. These boats are ideal for large-scale hydrographic work, allowing the work to be carried out with fewer people at sea and emitting much less than a conventional boat.
Premier and Minister for State Development, Trade and Antarctica, Jeremy Rockliff, commented that Ocean Infinity’s decision to establish its Robotic Vessel Operations Center in Hobart underscores the state’s strong economy and its growing prominence as a hub for maritime innovation.
Importantly, the arrival of Ocean Infinity will create up to 50 new full-time jobs, offering highly skilled positions in the maritime and technology sectors, strategically aligning with Tasmania’s competitive advantages.
For her part, Madeleine Ogilvie, who is Minister for Advanced Manufacturing and Defense Industries and Minister for Science and Technology, highlighted that Tasmania’s innovative and wealthy maritime, science and technology sectors make the state the perfect home for Ocean Infinity. The company is already an established provider of hydrographic ocean science services to the government.
Ogilvie also noted that Ocean Infinity’s innovative approach and implementation of cutting-edge technology, such as its extensive fleet of autonomous underwater vehicles, one of the one of the largest in the world, have earned it a distinguished reputation in ocean exploration, marine robotics and beyond.
The company’s commitment to transition its operations to shore-based Operations Centers, which oversee work based on robotic vessels, marks a significant advance in maritime innovation.
Ocean Infinity’s sizeable fleet of robotic vessels, including the recently commissioned 78-meter small crewed vessels, underscores its ambition to lead robotic shipping operations globally.
