Air Liquide and Siemens Energy announced the creation of a joint venture that will be dedicated to the series production of renewable hydrogen electrolysers on an industrial scale in Europe.
[post_relacionado]This Franco-German partnership, with their combined expertise, will enable the emergence of a sustainable hydrogen economy in Europe with global impact, and foster a European ecosystem for electrolysis and hydrogen technology.
Production is expected to start in the second half of 2023 and increase to an annual production capacity of three gigawatts by 2025.
Air Liquide will take 25.1%, and Siemens Energy will have 74.9% of the joint venture, the creation of which remains subject to approval by competent authorities. This joint venture will be based in Berlin and the factory that will produce electrolysis modules (“batteries”) would also be located in the German capital, as announced earlier this year.
The factory will supply batteries to both Groups for their respective wide range of customers and to serve the rapidly growing market.
The strategic partnership will benefit from a portfolio of hydrogen projects combining the pipelines of Air Liquide and Siemens Energy, targeting large industrial-scale hydrogen projects in collaboration with customers. This will create a strong foundation for the required rapid increase in electrolysis capacities and is therefore expected to make competitive renewable hydrogen available sooner.
One of the first projects is the electrolyzer of Air Liquide’s Normand’Hy project, with a capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) planned in the first phase, located in Normandy, France. The assembly of the electrolyser systems for this project is scheduled to take place in France.
