Joby Aviation announced the expansion of its manufacturing facilities in Marina (California) and Dayton (Ohio) consolidating its presence in both key states. This expansion doubles its production capacity in Marina and strengthens its infrastructure to meet the growing demand for electric air cabs.
The company also added a sixth aircraft to its fleet, which was quickly certified for operations. This progress reflects Joby’s commitment to technological development and efficiency in its assembly lines where Toyota’s expertise is leveraged to optimize processes and ensure high quality standards.
[post_relacionado]Joby’s vertical integration allows it to control all stages of the cycle from design and manufacturing to operation and pilot training. This strategy reduces development time and facilitates FAA certification, which is key to its expansion plans.
Joby Aviation’s new facilities
The new space in Marina of more than 400,000 square feet will allow production of up to 24 aircraft per year while the Ohio plant is moving forward to manufacture up to 500 units per year. Both facilities incorporate technologies such as 3D printing and advanced data analytics enhancing production and contributing to the creation of hundreds of jobs in the aerospace industry.
The collaboration with Toyota also strengthens Joby’s ability to scale its business model and adapt to future applications of its air cabs including hybrid propulsion testing. Support from state and community officials has been instrumental in bringing these initiatives to fruition including a $9.8 million grant from the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and an additional $10 million in equipment cost savings from the State Treasurer’s Office.
