This discovery took place in exploration well 7220/7-CD-1H, which was drilled on the Drivis structure within the Johan Castberg field area, where crude oil has been identified in the Tubåen formation at a depth of 1769 meters.

According to Equinor, the Tubåen discovery strengthens its intention to increase the project’s reserves by up to an additional 550 million barrels. To this end, the company plans to execute six enhanced recovery wells(IOR) and maintain ongoing exploration activity in the region.
[post_relacionado]On the other hand, the Isflak development is planned as a rapid field expansion, with operations scheduled to start in 2028. This move seeks to take advantage of infrastructure synergies generated by the entry into production of Johan Castberg, which recently peaked at 220,000 barrels per day.
The well was drilled by the Transocean Enabler as part of an extension of a producing well. The possibility of integrating this new find into the Johan Castberg production system is currently being evaluated.
The Barents Sea remains one of the least explored regions on the Norwegian shelf, but its potential broadens its appeal with active installations such as the Johan Castberg and Goliath fields. The company Equinor plans to maintain a cadence of one to two exploratory drillings per year in this area of the European Arctic.
