A team of researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering(IOF) have developed the goROBOT3D system, which enables 3D recognition of transparent, black or reflective objects in just 1.5 seconds.

Theory tells us that capturing non-cooperative surfaces such as glass, plastic or dark metal requires complex patterns, conditions and capture processes. The goROBOT3D technology transforms everything, under a single trigger system that avoids sequential registration.
[post_relacionado]By using 3D thermal sensors and thermographic cameras, the system structurally heats the scene to project thermal patterns onto the object. From a single pair of images, it achieves the generation of a high-fidelity three-dimensional model.
On the other hand, the use of diffractive optical elements allows the system to project a pattern of thermal points with great efficiency. Consequently, the captured information is processed by artificial intelligence, which determines in milliseconds the gripping points and directions, sending them directly to a robotic arm for manipulation.
The goROBOT3D development will be on display at the Automatica International Trade Fair in Munich from June 24 to 27. The modular structure of the system facilitates its integration into different production lines, where Fraunhofer IOF will be present to demonstrate how robot vision can evolve in efficiency and precision.
