The technology company Wärtsilä has been selected by Höegh Evi to supply an advanced regasification module for an ambitious ship conversion project.. This new order, awarded in the first quarter of 2025, will be installed on the LNG carrier Hoegh Gandria with the aim of transforming it into a high-capacity floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
Application of the regasification module in Egypt
Upon completion of the retrofit, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, the Hoegh Gandria will be deployed in the port of Sumed, Egypt. Thanks to the regasification module, it will operate as a floating LNG import terminal. LNG import terminalwith a maximum capacity of up to 1 billion cubic feet per day. This development seeks to strengthen Egypt’s energy infrastructure, providing flexibility and responsiveness to the demand for liquefied natural gas.

A critical component in the conversion to FSRU
The module is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2026. Its technical integration on the Hoegh Gandria is essential for the vessel to operate as an FSRU. This component transforms stored LNG into gas, making it grid-usable, and represents the operational core of the future floating regasification platform.
