The Canadian mining company Teck Resources has reported the temporary stoppage of activities at two of its main operations in Chile due to maintenance work. The company assured that these stoppages will not alter its copper production targets for 2025.
Disruptions at copper mines
A mechanical problem forced the SAG mill at the Carmen de Andacollo (CdA) mill in the Coquimbo region to shut down. The stoppage, which will last approximately one month, has been used by Teck to carry out other previously scheduled maintenance work at the plant.
[post_relacionado]The operation represents around 10% of the company’s annual consolidated copper volume. Despite the disruption, CdA is expected to maintain its projected production of between 45,000 and 55,000 tons of copper. copper for the current year.
In parallel, Teck reported an unrelated temporary outage at its Quebrada Blanca (QB) port terminal ship loader in northern Chile. The repairs will have a similar duration to those at CdA, but the company emphasized that it can ship through alternative ports.
Activities at the QB mine and plant continue to operate normally. Teck maintains its production projection for QB at between 230,000 and 270,000 tonnes of copper this year, part of a consolidated target of up to 565,000 tonnes by 2025.
Industry analysts estimate that the financial impact of these outages could be less than C$20 million in EBITDA by 2025. The rescheduling of maintenance would allow the company to mitigate most of the operational impact in the second half of the year.
